Establish a Great Glen Railway

Connect Oban, Fort William and Inverness

A direct railway connection should be established between Oban, Fort William and Inverness. At present, rail inter-connectivity in the West is very poor with all lines leading to Glasgow. This results in ludicrous journey times by rail between the major towns of the region. The demolished railways between Oban and Ballachulish, as well as Fort William and Fort Augustus should be re-established, but also taken further, to their originally intended destinations to provide, what would be, one of the greatest railway journeys in the world. This would support the growth of the population and the economy of Argyll and the Highlands, while also removing a great number of vehicles from the road, and enabling ’round-trips’ of Scotland by rail.
