Develop and Publicise a National Carpooling App

Creating a national carpooling app and website to enable easier car sharing

An app and website would be established allowing people across Scotland to create an account highlighting their interest in carpooling with people in their neighbourhood or with individuals making similar journeys. A campaign would raise awareness amongst the public and in the workplace and there would be a strong emphasis on working in partnership with businesses across sectors at national, regional and local level to showcase the opportunities for individuals. The platform would help address multiple challenges across Scotland; congestion in cities, towns and along key routes; emissions levels impacting environment and health; a growing elderly population often facing transport poverty; rural isolation and reliance on cars in the countryside; young people often on lower salaries who can struggle with cost and logistics of transport; and families who face logistical challenges in transport of their children and to their work. Partnerships would be established with organisations who are committed to tackling these challenges.
Participants could benefit from; reduced car numbers on their commute or in their neighbourhood; reduced emissions within these areas; financial gain if they choose to charge for a lift or receive a lift and save money; supporting individuals within their community; and socialising with new people.
