Make Edinburgh a Cycle City

Introduce a full cycle lane in the most commuted areas of Edinburgh

I’m an environmentalist, yet I drive 9 miles to work every day. That makes a total of 18 miles everyday. This uses up petrol, emits CO2 and I get no exercise. However, I’m also a very keen and experienced cyclist who’d love to cycle to work. Unfortunately my route is probably one of the most dangerous in Edinburgh, with a death of a cyclist earlier this year and countless accidents. I, personally, have had very many close calls. If a full cycle lane was created in the most commuted areas of Edinburgh instead of multiple lanes for cars, Lothian Road for example, me and many others wouldn’t have to decide between driving or cycling extremely dangerous roads. This is very cheap and very easy, and not a radical solution. Ultimately, it would deter drivers, encourage cycling and improve pollution, creating a fitter and healthier city.
