Rail Electrification and Rail Reopening Programme

Electrify the inter-city network and reconnect Scotland’s communities
The core intercity network within Scotland that links the cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness should be electrified. This network is already being upgraded with Intercity 125 HSTs but the next stage after this should be electrification and new 5-car trains. These could be like the CAF 5-car trains being ordered by Transpennine Express for example.
Additionally a rail reopening programme is required. Priority should be extending the Borders Railway beyond Tweedbank to Carlisle. Also the Levenmouth Line, the St Andrews branch and the Aberdeen to Peterhead and Fraserburgh lines.
