The use of public transport in conjunction with cycling could be smoother if some key strategies were implemented. Secure parking spots for bikes should be added to all Scottish railway stations along with cycle stowage on all trains. Cycle stowage can be extended to buses, which has already been shown to work in Canada. The number of secure bike storage and parking spots in towns and cities can be largely increased. Systems like “Borrow a Bike” can be scaled up in major town centres – again a highly successful Canadian provision.
