Reconnect Dumfries to the West Coast Line

Reinstate the railway line to better connect the Central Belt

Dumfries is a town of 40,000 people with an additional 10-15,000 people in its wider catchment area. As the main town of Dumfries & Galloway, it is one of the most poorly served towns in Scotland for rail services. The train journey to Glasgow takes two hours – there is no direct route to Edinburgh. People here use Lockerbie Station to catch the West Coast Mainline, and either have to drive or get the bus (which does not stop at the station). It is 13 miles to Lockerbie – why not reinstate the railway line, closed since 1966, so we can be better connected to the Central Belt? This would give a real economic boost to a region that has fallen behind the rest of Scotland in terms of connectivity.
