Within Scottish cities and towns congestion seems to be encouraged by poorly designed junctions. It wouldn’t take much common sense to see where junctions are too narrow or the curb radius is poor. To manage this issue and produce free-flowing travel in cities, good signage immediately before junctions accompanied by clear road markings should be present in all current and future junctions. In terms of tourism, it can be difficult for visitors as there isn’t enough consistency at junctions. An example of this is Queen Street, where it changes from one junction to the next. It also moves 2 lanes over to enable a right turn, but forces one of the lanes into parked cars! Either council workers can’t see these issues or they don’t care. Some improvements wouldn’t cost much and would ease the flow through junctions.
